The MIMCO Design Project is back! And this year, we're asking you to design the next iconic MIMCO shoe.
When it comes to creating shoes—all of our accessories, really—our designers think meticulously about every detail. And with every pair of shoes we think about the women who will be wearing them and we know what she wants: standout style, all-day wearability and her best fit ever.
Whether your idea of the perfect shoe is a sky-high stilletto, a grounded loafer or a street-savvy sneaker, think of the details that will make your design unique—and distinctly MIMCO.
The winning design will be chosen by the MIMCO design team and released as part of our S1.19 winter collection.
FYI: Both previous winners (the State of Flux Bag and the Manifesto Tote) became bona-fide, sell-out sensations as soon as they launched. Does your design have what it takes to be an icon?Enter Now View Gallery

10 THINGS TO KNOW
(AND LOVE) ABOUT SHOES
Our shoe designer Molly has the answers to all your questions.
What makes an iconic MIMCO shoe? +
A MIMCO icon is defined by its point of difference; there’s nothing like the MIMCO quirk. We’re not afraid to push the boundaries and love to have fun with our shoes; we love to experiment with unique heels, unexpected shapes and dramatic (or delicate) details.
What goes into a MIMCO shoes?+
Almost every element of every MIMCO shoe is dreamed up in our Melbourne head office. Our team starts with seasonal inspirations—which could be anything from artificial intelligence to the work of famous artists and architects—and then combine those with the key trends of the season and the colours & materials that work back with the rest of the collection.
Something to remember: The finer details like embellishments, speciality heels and cut-out details can be the starting point or the finishing touch.
What are the major shoe trends for the upcoming season? +
A rich, textural palette will be important for winter 2019: deep bordeaux, wine and any array of neutrals. When it comes to shapes, it’s about sensual, over-the-knee boots, slouchy ‘70s-style silhouettes (plus, a touch of disco!)—and don't forget about the ‘80s revival. We are also loving materials such as suede, snake print leather, velvet and brocade.
What materials are the best for shoes? +
Think about luxe, sturdy materials (calf and kid suede, calf leather, brocade and velvet) that are well-suited for closed-toe silhouettes.
How do you ensure a shoe stays comfortable all day? +
The MIMCO design team work with a technologist to create the perfect padding in every pair of our shoes. Think about padding and fabrication in your design; the winning designer will be able to workshop the finer details of fit and comfort when they visit MIMCO HQ.
What kind of shoe can I design? +
We’re looking for a shoe that the MIMCO woman can wear throughout the winter season. It could be an over-the-knee boot, a closed-toe pump, a sneaker or a classic ankle boot—the options are only limited by your imagination.
Are there any restrictions/things to avoid? +
Avoid using perforated leathers, silk or satin as the main material as they’re not ideal for the winter months. Open-toe sandals and strappy heels are much better suited for summer.
What’s the most important thing to remember when designing a shoe? +
Always consider the versatility and wearability of the shoe—and always have fun while you’re doing it. That's the reason why so many women LOVE shoes!
Where can I find inspiration? +
Everywhere. If you need some, try interesting websites, go to galleries or watch a film. Molly, our designer loves to look to vintage styles—the unique constructions can provide great inspirations.
Fit or flair—what’s more important? +
No one wants an ill-fitting shoe, or a boring shoe. Consider both when designing your shoe.
